My Oh So Pretty Kitchen

My goal was for my kitchen to welcome people!  I love the colour!

Well, it is Finally done! Or, as done as it is going to be for awhile. There are some finishing touches that I will add over time, but for now my kitchen is done & I'm loving it! I took the time to declutter, delete things I wasn't using and to really organize all the cabinets. You can click on this Link to peek if you want to see some before shots. I will be adding more before shots with information on what I did.  If you want to look more closely at the photos just click on them.

Everyday I walk into my kitchen and feel Happy! The colour of my cupboards makes me smile everytime I look at them! I love the wall colour...I was really going for that clean swedish look yet still be cosy! Our house sits on a heavily treed lot and is a challenge to me when it comes to choosing colour! But thankfully, I am happy with the results!  The colour is Timothy Straw by Benjamin Moore & I used their Aura Paint with no fumes.

Even on the dullest days in November my kitchen is still cheerful!

For a galley kitchen it is very spacious!

Okay, I realize my fridge looks messy...but beside it to the left is an area for your laptop and more open shelving.

You can't really see it, but we added beadboard as a back splash.  Very inexpensive & pretty!  I used melamine paint for the beadboard and months later, and many scrubs behind the stove it is still looking new!

I love my beadboard which I know is hard to see.  In my next post, I will show more before & after shots.

I love my floating shelves!  I bought them at Mardens for $10 each and only had to paint them white.  They hold my new everyday dishes perfectly.  The white glass cabinet is a work in progress.  The inside is mactacked & I need to paint over it. Vintage 1970!

I love my new yellow cabinet that I bought for $5 at a yard sale.  It is a hospital bedside table which I painted.  The Ikea shelves above I purchased on Kijiji for $20

We added new countertops & the microwave above the stove.

This cupboard is one my brother in-law Paul built for me many years ago.  I didn't want to paint it as it had aged to a beautiful honey pine.  But it didn't look so good anymore in my new kitchen so I painted it this lovely yellow...which was actually a colour I had chosen for my cupboards but then changed my mind.

This dining set was given to us by my mother inlaw.  However, we hope to paint it at some point as the top isn't in such great shape.   I had worried it would look to old & dark, but I actually like it!  I love my vintage tablecloth.  I've had it for years and only bring it out for Thanksgiving.  So, I am enjoying using it on this table.

Oh...& a big thank you to my friend  Heidi who took the photos for me!  She is a great photographer and has a beautiful camera!  All my pictures were dull looking with my cheap camera!  So Thank you!

Hi, I'm a fellow New Brunswicker and a new blogger. I found your blog through your sister's blog, which I have been following for about a year. I love your kitchen makeover. The cabinet colour is very pretty and bright. I am always looking for inspiration for our future kitchen makeover which I hope to get going on in the new year. I'm a procrastinator! Have a great day!

Just hopped over from your sisters lovely blog... I am smitten by your creativity and original design! We are (still?) renovating our nearly 200 yo brick house which was nothing but a shell (termite stripped and missing roof) when we bought it. One of these days I'll find time to post before n afters. Your energy and creativity gave me a great boost to keep going. Thanks for sharing!
hugs,
Leslie

Your kitchen looks lovely - the green was very daring and looks so fresh and pretty. We did almost the same makeover in our kitchen this past summer. We already had the beadboard backsplash, but I painted it white and then I painted the cabinets grey on the bottom and white on the upper. We had a new counter put in 2 summers ago and are still waiting on putting in an over-the-range microwave. The funny thing is our dining room table and chairs look very similar to yours (Edwardian style from my grandparents) and I always put vintage tablecloths on them. I think I could feel very much at home in your kitchen.

Wow, thank you again for all the lovely comments! I finally dug out the paint cans and here are the colours I used:

Aura paint by Benjamin Moore in Timothy Straw for my cupboards.

Sico Paint on the walls called Camelot...translation - an icy blue that looks happy no matter what the weather!

Hope this helps! I will also add the info to my post.

Your kitchen has given me the inspiration to do what I have said I will NOT do for the last 13 years, yet have failed to achieve the look I want without doing it - paint my cupboards! I cannot tell you enough how much I LOVE your kitchen. I have revisited the pictures so many times the last couple of days looking at every detail and loving every bit of modern-meets-eclectic-meets-vintage in an oh-so-amazingly adorable, happy, "real life" way! You have a way of putting things together that I wish I had the mind's eye to see. Thank you for sharing it with us all. May I ask what sheen of paint you used? Thanks again! Here's to many happy family times in your new beautiful kitchen!

I'm inspired! Can you tell me what type of coutertops you put in? I didn't see that in the description and can't tell from the pics.
Thanks!

Thank you for the kind comments! We purchased and installed ourselves laminate counter tops. I can look up the pattern if you like.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been going back and forth on painting our cabinets and removing the tile. Your approach is doable and I'm gonna go for it! Thank you again for sharing the lovely pictures. Merry Christmas. :)

Girl, this is just a breath of fresh air. I am so tired of all the white white white...The light blue on the walls is just perfect! Wish this were mine:)

Thank you! I love colour & it was a toss between three colours. I ultimately went with the one that made me smile instantly!

I love the color of your kitchen. I came here from Remedaholic. But I think my favorite part of your post is that you mentioned something came from Mardens! I'm originally from Maine and I love going to Mardens to see what I can find when I visit there, but no one else has ever heard of it!

I am green with envy! We are in the design process, renovating the kitchen in our 1800s hunting lodge....a long way to go before I post an 'after' photo. Huge project but after seeing your pictures it's easy to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Really nice. My wife loves redesigning our house in Minneapolis almost every year. We'll be starting the works at the kitchen next weekend and still needs to call an electrician to arrange the wiring. Everything looks perfect, don't worry, even your fridge.

I viewed the before look of the kitchen and I must say, the new look is way beautiful. I saw other renovations in Miami with bright kitchens. Though the roofing in our house kitchen is shingled coz the metal isn't that advisable because of the weather.

When I looked up Timothy Straw online it looks so different from your pictures. It looks more brown then green. Did you think that when you bought it or do you think it is the computer or do you think they have changed the color?

onelittlemustardseed said...

Hi, I wouldn't go by the computer version. I would go to a Benjamin Moore store and check there. The colour does look different under different light...morning sunshine, rainy days, etc. I bought a sample pot at Benajmin Moore and painted one of my doors, already primed to be sure that I like it. It helped to live with it for a few days under different lighting conditions to know for sure! But, six months in now and I still love it!!!!! Good luck!!!!
